Moloaa/Anahola

Anahola, located in Kauai, Hawaii has retained a natural Hawaiian village ambience. Its majestic mountains are visible from miles away and are as distinctive as "Bali Hai" on the North Shore. Nestled beneath the dramatic landscape of Mt. Kalalea in Anahola is a Hawaiian Homes community (including vacation rentals in Anahola, Hawaii), a charming, crescent bay with a long sand beach, reefs for exploring and fishing and a large park for games, camping (County permits required), and just plain relaxing.

The highway running through Anahola is cheerfully interrupted by roadside stands offering fresh flower lei, refreshing shave ice, and Hawaiian style foods. The Anahola Post Office is flanked by a convenience store and local favorite hamburger stand, Duane’s Ono Char Burger, and the Anahola Baptist Church sits quietly across the road at the foot of the mountain.  People tend to drive through Anahola quickly on their way to the North Shore, but this lovely spot, proudly cared for by its residents, deserves a leisurely visit. Drive slowly when you turn off the highway...the kids may be playing nearby.

Much of the land in Moloa’a and Anahola, Hawaii  has been dedicated to Hawaiian Homelands, providing housing to those of Hawaiian ancestry. Many of the individuals at Anahola beach are Hawaiians. If you choose to visit this beach you will notice that it is pretty and enjoy swimming on the eastern side of the bay on the northern end. The first Aliomanu Road will take you right to Anahola Beach Park.

Although it has one name ‘Aliomanu Bay’ it is really two beaches!  A fringe reef is off the South beach and many locals use this beach for shoreline fishing, hunting octopus, and harvesting limu, and edible seaweed.  A parking lot above the beach makes access fairly easy although a short walk is required to get down the beach. The water has lots of rocks and is really not suitable for more than what the locals use it for, however the beach is beautiful.

For those seeking a getaway from it all here you’ll experience a combination of the best of both worlds.  A must - - - Duane’s Ono Char Burger is a local favorite restaurant in Anahola and the probably the best on the island, which makes Anahola a worthwhile exploration.  World-class mountain biking trails are set at the base of an amazing backdrop.
